16th Century Cottage
For this project, a complete re-model was required, the existing layout of the 16th century cottage was not conducive to modern family living, the rooms were too small, the dining area was at the opposite end of the house to the kitchen and the decor was dated. The key practical considerations included ensuring that as much light entered the property as possible, each room was given a focal point or feature and much emphasis was placed on the kitchen as this would be the ‘heart of the home’.
- The dark interior needed to be lightened.
- Rooms needed to be configured for use by a young and growing family.
- Ample storage space was required.
- The introduction of visual focal points were essential as the cottage had few existing features.
